BRYCE’S STORY

Bryce, 10 years old, Elizabeth, NJ, Traumatic Brain Injury

At 8 years old, Bryce was struck by a speeding motorist while crossing the street. He spent one week in a coma and suffered multiple skull fractures and a traumatic brain injury which caused seizures, bleeding and swelling of his brain, as well as severe damage to his neck and spine. He underwent several blood and platelet transfusions and multiple brain surgeries. Doctors told Bryce’s parents his injuries were so severe he had a 90% chance of never walking again, but he soon proved them wrong. After spending 2 weeks in the hospital, Bryce was sent to Children’s Specialized Hospital in Mountainside to spend time at the outpatient brain injury program. Bryce still comes to the outpatient cognitive rehabilitation center at Children’s Specialized Hospital in Mountainside a few times per week to undergo treatment. His recovery is going so well and at such an exceptional rate.
